The Linnhe Storehouse and café (ph 01631 260016) is nicely situated up on the road above the castle, unsurprisingly with a great view of the castle, 15 minutes. Taken on by the Pierhouse Hotel at Port Appin in 2026, open 9-4, and it also has a small gift shop. Not cheap. The Old Inn is a ten-or-so minute walk along the cycle path to the south of the marina, it has a good reputation, but I have yet to visit (ph 01631 730186). Linnhe Marine is the small and friendly family-run water-sports centre with moorings and a loading pontoon (ph 07721 503981). However, you can also anchor on the other side of the sound off Shuna. Mind you I feel a bit guilty about that because the buoys to guide you into Shuna Sound from the south were laid by Linnhe Marine so it should be supported.
You could just about take the dinghy to the privately owned 15th century Castle Stalker, or walk from the mainland if the tide is low, something I have never done. There are limited tours (vital to book well ahead) and a welcoming website (ph 07721 730354). It appears on so many Scottish calendars because of its ridiculously romantic position in the middle of the sea (at high tide at least).
