Fly from Oban

You need to get yourself to Oban airfield — best from anchorages at Oban, Dunstaffnage or Saulmore Bay — and then a taxi. It calls itself an airport, and in a miniature sort of way that is exactly what it is, complete with miniature terminal and check in desk, but thankfully no heavy security checks. All very trim and spotless, quiet and empty except for one receptionist. Free parking too. And do-it-yourself coffee. It even provides instructions about how to get there by bike. As far from the horrors of Heathrow as it is possible to imagine. But not too difficult if you only have to deal with on average 12 passengers a day — in 2015.

All the year round you can take a scenic flight, and f there is a free seat within five days of departure, on one of the scheduled Hebridean Air Services flights to Colonsay, Tiree and Coll. And they do charters.
